ROANOKE VALLEY IPMS 2020 Region 2 Convention

REGION NEWS AND UPDATES

HAPPY NEW YEAR 2020 !!!

I hope all of my modeling buds and “budettes” out in Region 2 had a great holiday and are looking forward to new year 2020.  I know I am.  2019 was an interesting year, to say the least, but 2020 has a lot of hope and promise in store.  To start with, we have the upcoming Region 2 Convention to plan and look forward to in October, but more on this later.

First things first…I hope all clubs have completed their rechartering for 2020.  If you have not, please get with your officers and National members to update any memberships and send in your rechartering fee as soon as possible.

I am accepting nominations for the following Region 2 awards:

WEBMASTER OF THE YEAR 2019

NEWSLETTER OF THE YEAR 2019

REGION 2 CHAPTER OF THE YEAR 2019

MIKE LYONS MEMORIAL REGION 2 PERSON OF THE YEAR 2019

I need these nominations no later than March 1 in order to get the awards to the National E-Board.

If you have sent in a nomination already, please send me an e-mail to jog my memory banks.  The old noggin isn’t what it used to be.  If you are new to the nomination process, please remember, I do not need a 10 volume digital presentation, but a few sentences on why you feel your club or nominee is worthy of the award.  Remember, we have a lot of great guys and gals that deserve recognition.

Show season 2020 kicks off with the ever-popular Old Dominion Open in Richmond, February 29th.  “Leap” on down to the Richmond Raceway for the start of the Region 2 show calendar.  Chris Bryan is now at the helm, after years of yeoman-like duty from Chazz Klanian.  A special salute goes out to Chazz for his super work on this show and his furthering of the plastic model hobby.  Chris can be reached at modelprofessor@gmail.com for information on the show.

Head west the Saturday of March 7th for the 2020 MDA Model Car show in Roanoke.  Dennis Smith and the Muscular Dystrophy organization need your help to raise money for Jerry’s Kids and have some fun with car modelling on the side.  The Berglund Center (Roanoke Civic Center) will play host to the show which will have both 25th scale models as well as the full-sized ones on display.  Contact Dennis at eastsmith1@aol.com for more details.

The Region 2 show season would not complete without the ever-popular MosquitoCon 29 held in Wayne, NJ every year.  This year’s show is on April 4th, held at the Wayne PAL community center and always a great time is had by all.  Huge model display, vendors galore and great contest make this one a show not to miss.  Contact the club at www.njipms.org for more information.

Model Classic 2020 in Fairfax, VA will follow on April 18th at the Fairfax High School.  Tom Henderson and the NOVA crew are looking forward to Region 2 visiting in force and the 2019 IPMS Region 2 awards will be presented at this show.  For more information on this show, contact Tom Henderson at tomhenderson51@verizon.net.

Summer kicks off with a new date for MarauderCon 2020.  June 6th, anniversary of D-Day is a fitting tribute to the B-26 Marauder that led the way on bomber attacks on the beaches of Normandy.  Mark Altizer and the Baltimore bunch look forward to everyone traveling up to Havre De Grace, MD for their show.  Contact Mark at maltizer1@verizon.net for information on the show.

Central Pennsylvania rounds out the summer with their PennCon 2020 on September 19th at the Eisenhower Complex in Gettysburg, PA.  Chet Mohn is at the helm and he can be reached at magus47@aol.com for information on the show.  Please support the cause by sponsorships and raffle donations.

Last, but certainly not least, is the return of the Region 2 IPMS Convention to the Salem Civic Center, sponsored by Roanoke Valley IPMS.  Salem Civic Center in Salem, VA will be the host arena and the RVIPMS Contest crew is working diligently to put on a two-day show that will knock your socks off.  Over 90 categories, special awards, seminars, demos, promotional items, raffle, super raffle and silent auction are just some of the things planned for the show as well as a Special award for the Spirit of Region 2 award for the best club display.  We will end the event with a nice get-together dessert/drink social hour before the video presentation of the awards.  A great time will be had by all to close out the 2020 Region 2 show season.  Please contact Tim Ward at 540-977-6205 or twardf86@aol.com for more details or if you have a demo or seminar you would like to present.  We need all the help we can get!!!  Check out our website at www.rvipms.com for more details and updates as showtime gets closer.

TO ALL CLUBS—PLEASE SUPPORT THE AFORMENTIONED SHOWS WITH SPONSORSHIPS AND RAFFLE DONATIONS

I look forward to seeing all of you at these shows and I would appreciate any input you can give on the running of Region 2.

Happy modeling,

Tim Ward
